Mechanicsburg and the west shore, written down in one file
Mechanicsburg is its own borough on the west shore of the Susquehanna, in Cumberland County — north of Carlisle, not a neighborhood of it. The older grid is brick houses and alleys. Farther out, subdivisions take over, and the Carlisle Pike runs a long commercial strip through the middle of daily life. Whether the house is brick on the older grid or farther out in a subdivision, the House File keeps the details of staying put straight. MOSES is digital and on one waitlist for everyone. We do not have a local office.
Winter pipe protection is the valley problem you can actually file: a freeze, exterior spigots, and heat that has to keep a basement above the point where a line fails. Write the main water valve, the indoor valves for outdoor faucets, and whether the heat is gas, oil, or electric. Many in-town houses are on public water and sewer. Edges of the surrounding townships, and some older lots, can still be on a well or a septic tank. Record the system this address has. A neighbor’s utility bill is not documentation.
Basements, sumps, and the Pike
Sump pumps are ordinary in these basements. A pump that failed once should leave a date and a receipt in the House File, plus where the discharge goes so meltwater is not icing the walk. If you added a battery backup after a storm, say so. Snow removal, when you pay for it, is a vendor contact with a phone number, not a magnet that fell off the fridge. The HVAC filter size belongs on the same page as the service company.
The Pike is why a house file and a small commercial file are the same product. A side-street house and a leased shop on the highway both need a shutoff photo, an insurance certificate, and a human who can meet a repair tech. Rentals — including houses owned by someone who lives in another town — need the shutoff and the water-heater age in a place the person on site can open. MOSES is not a property manager.
